Generative Design

Architects and urban designers need to evaluate many design options in the early stages of design. current practice only allows the evaluation of a small number of options. it does not incorporate rapid analysis of programmatic and performative metrics. A rapid prototyping generative design tool will allow architects and urban designers to better evaluate the impact of placement, form and dimensional configuration, and environmental and contextual factors on design decisions. The process lab has been researching a generative design solution called building form generator (BFG). BFG helps designers to quickly generate and analyze a large number of alternatives providing deeper, more critical insight into design problems, currently BFG needs scripting by an expert, we propose to create a tool in rhino grasshopper that architects and urban designers can use independently to perform generative design.
